Discovering Ansel Adams, Exhibition
Role, Art Direction & Design
Discovering Ansel Adams was an exhibition at the Cincinnati Art Museum in 2024. As the designer for this show, I collaborated with the curator to decide on a visual direction for the exhibition.
For this exhibition direction, I was inspired by Ansel Adams’ themes of nature, especially his focus on mountains. I initially proposed the idea of using ripped paper textures, abstracted to resemble mountain ranges, to create a sense of depth and landscape, but during the process ended up becoming a more literal geometric form. The typography also plays into this idea. “Ansel” and “Adams” sit at different levels, echoing peaks and valleys, while the spacing of the letters suggests the passage of time.
